QUEEN.

See here my little scribble about the Queen Party 2003. One of the fabulous traditions, next to the international queen gatherings and the dutch fanclub day in October, we have the privilege here in Holland to have a second Queen party in spring.
And that is where this is all about, enjoy.
The story is mine, the pictures are taken from others, some with, some without permission, but all free at the internet, so I think no one cares. Who cares or has comments about the pictures OR the content knows how to contact me trhough email.
So no back stabbing, but enjoy, GO WITH THE SHOW!!
This year is the 6th time I should go to the Queen party in Waalre.
As every year, I was looking forward to this event for a long time already.
Living in a small country as Holland, with so many queen fans packed together, it is great to be able to see them now and then. More and more the circle of people that I know is growing, and it is lovely to discover that there are so many nice queenfans to share our love for queen with!
So funny to realize that this is the 6th time. First year I went there with a german queen fan, second year alone, a time with swiss fans, past year I went with my australian friend Dave, and this year I went with my daughter Anne.
Never in her life I made her a real queen fan, but she likes parties. So she planned to come this weekend, I told her that she was welcome, but that she then should join me to this party. I was forward already conviced that she should enjoy it. The only worry I had was that I hoped indeed that she would not find her dad too much out of control.
Cos Queen music does "it" with me!
We left the house here at 2.30, went with the tram to the station, took the train to Eindhoven, where we waited for the bus to Waalre.
We arrived at 4.30 at "'t klooster" in Waalre and at the moment we came in we were "catched" by Harry and Patrick and William, the first beer was drank soon.
It is lovely to see them again, always great fun with Harry and Patrick, even tho they were in their provocating Kiss shirts there. :) Hehe, that's humor!
So many queen fans in Holland I know, all through the years of course, it felt like shaking hands forever. Met some new friends as well, the "dutch queenfans"

Walking around in the not *yet* filled hall made us meeting the good old friends like Maaike and her family, good to see them, Wijnand, Noortje and of course our Limburg team Pretje with his friends. The ones who I shall not recognize when they have no beers in their hands :):):)
We decided to go to eat and we went off to the Shoarna restaurant, near by. The traditional invasion of Queen fans in the small village is sure a thing that the 2 restaurants in the village shall remember every year, the place was stuffed up with Queen people. The meal was great and more then enough, ooooh yes, food, one of the 3 essentials in life :)
When we walked back we saw some others going for food and with Maaikes family there was Alma, the girl I talk with for such a long time already, we tried to meet for many tims unsuccessful, but now it all finally happened. Funny how you can have an image of a nice blond girl, that appears to be in real a lovely tall red haired lady. :)
Finally, after all the tries met Alma, as well. Alma is taller and more red then I expected, happy surprise, I have something with long legs and red hair :) I stop making compliments for now, imagine that one gets the wrong idea :)

The next sweet surprise of the evening was the band
PRESSURE

Pressure is founded at the Queen Convention in 1998.
I had the pleasure to have been there and I saw those guys wining the song contest with an absolute fabulous performance of Under Pressure.
It was good to see that they are still playing and they even have formed a little group, with a female singer with them. The girl played keyboard, the more easy listening songs, and the boys had so much fun in their performing, it was great and fantastic to see how much fun the guys had.
A lot of people seem to be a bit disappointed in the group, because of that they played with a tape and were sure not professional (see the writings downstairs, in dutch), but I think that that is very wrong judged. Many people were talking and not even giving the band the credits that they sure deserved, they were having so much fun and entertained the audience that had the politeness to listen a lot.
The girl appeared to be a good keyboardplayer and singer as well, and the guys made themself immortal with Under Pressure, but what it most did for me was that they sang "final destination"...

Big compliment for the organisation to invite every year such a band who is showing the fun and is exactly what is the queen spirit.
Yes, you are right, you can't compare it with Queen, they sang Queen songs, like every queen cover band in their own way!

We met some of the queenzoners that I missed in Vlaardingen. We met Harry, one of the few Queen people that Anne was already chatting with before today. It is so nice to see the faces and behavior of people and compare on line with real life.
Paul, Niek and Harry showed up to be the same as that they are on line, cool guys, only... they can't dance! Whoooohahahahaha!
Musicians don't dance, that's what Niek sais as an excuse. :):)

Then the break was made, with an auction.
The auction had some intresting items, one was a signed single (if I remember correct). It amazes me how low the prices for those items are going out for.
In the UK you easily get 1000 pounds for a signature of Freddie, and here it was only about 200 euro, incredible!
During that time we had the chance to chat a bit with some people. It is too many people you meet to make a good conversation and of course I missed some to talk with. Was very happy to see Eva there, she rocks, and nice to meet Ina and Richard as well. It is clear when you see those 3, means Miracle will play and so they did.

One of the big efforts of Miracle is that they play a lot of the not so popular songs, it is not a greatest hits show. Consequently Anne could not sing along with all the songs, but seeing me crazy she made a good try and came pretty close to me :) Sure she is family of me, Anne Rocks (just like sissy!).
The concert started with "I was born to love you", a speedy start and very soon I was already in the magic of the music. Queen music has so much magic in it, I cannot stand still with it and it was fabulous to see that Anne did her best to join me as much as she could
More then 2 hours concert, wonderful songs, nice memories and as I hoped a bit, not mother love. That should have brought the tear *sob, miss you*, what should not have fit in the spirit that was there for me in that evening. How did they know that they should skip it??? :):)
All in all it was a good concert. The prophets' song is of course, as always, showing a lot of admiration, the technique in this song is used very well and it is stunning to hear all the echoes through the place.

Scandal is (as the singer of the band admitted) one of the most difficult Queen-songs to sing. And that sure was clear. I think the band has so many songs that they can sing so wonderful, that they better focus on that. Okay, that's my opinion, for what it's worth!
I admire the guts of the group, there are so many great songs. And the suprise was "the football game" from Flash, first Flash song that Miracle sang, wow, cool, this group is always able to surprise the audience!
2 hours of non stop queen songs, oooo, my poor body, it was soo long, it was exhausting my body, but I cannot stop with queen music, so don't stop me now...
And then the end came, of course with we are the champions, hand in hand, my ex (hi ries) and my daughter (haai anne), and then it ended with the national anthem again.

Exhausted but happy we left the party, trying to say goodbye to some people, not all succceded, but alas, it is never saying good bye, it is always saying see you soon again!
Finally we were home at 3 am, knackered, worn out but with a great feeling.
Another party is over, and you should have been there. A wonderful memory in the chain of queen memories that never stops in growing!

Ik heb (bijna) geen stem meer, Anne is nog diep in slaap en ik kijk
met een goed gevoel terug op gisteren.
Bij binnenkomst werd ik gelijk door mesnen herkend, hadden we een gezellig gesprek met
harry en patrick en william, en natuurlijk heel veel bekenden en nieuwe queeners ontmoet, shoarna gegeten (lekker) en daarna het optreden van pressure, uiteindelijk.
3 engelse gasten, een meid, 2 mannen, de 2 mannen had ik in 1998 in
Prestatyn de talentenjacht zien winnen en inderdaad, een van de
beste nummers die ze zongen was Under Pressure, waaw, dat deed zeer
hoe hoog die gozer kan :).
Verder een waanzinnige revelation, surrender en een boel andere
songs, deels met band-muziek, deels dat het meisje piano speelde.
Na de veiling en al Miracle.
Johnnie was goed bij stem en ze hebben een heel lange en goede setting gedaan,
ze worden muzikaal gezien steeds beter en ondanks wat kleine missers zoals een batterij in de gitaar die op was bij love of my life, was het puur genieten en erg
leuk.
Om kwart over 12 naar huis met een stel stalpoten, maar ik kan
volmondig JA zeggen als je vraagt "was it all worth it".
Tas, jammer dat je zo snel weg was, niet eens afscheid kunnen nemen,
nou ja, volgende keer beter.
Het was gaaf en ook Anne vond het geweldig, ondanks dat die niet zo
thuis is in de oude liedjes had ze het toch wel heel erg naar haar
zin en deed ze (bijna) even gek als ik.
Bijna, he, het valt niet mee om mij te evenaren... Maar ik zag een
paar die er dicht bij in de buurt kwamen.
Nou, volgend jaar maar weer, geslaagd uitje dus!

Subject: Waalre - terugblik.
Hallo iedereen,
ik had al een hele stroom mailtjes verwacht over gisteren, maar
blijkbaar ben ik de enige die momenteel wakker is :-)
Even een kleine impressie:
overdag vond ik het eigenlijk tegenvallen. Het was helemaal niet druk en er
waren volgens mij toch ook minder stands. Toch nog wat leuke dingen gekocht,
voornamelijk cd-singles. Voor de rest niet echt bijzondere dingen.
Het was leuk om weer wat bekende gezichten te zien.
's Avonds was het lang wachten op het voorprogramma 'Pressure'. Helaas
was dit een matige voorstelling, vond ik dan, maar ik weet zeker dat er
meer mensen zijn die dit vinden.
En eindelijk begon dan het optreden van Miracle! Ik geloof dat vanaf
dat moment de zaal helemaal uit z'n bol ging. Ik stond zelf rechtsvoor bij
de box (waar de cameraman ook stond). M'n oren zijn er nog steeds niet van
tot rust gekomen :-)
Na dit spetterende optreden weer huiswaarts gegaan... te voet! M'n band
was lek en kon ik 's nachts 'eventjes' zo'n 8 kilometer lopen met de fiets
in de hand...
Freddie: picturedisc nog voor een goede prijs van de hand gedaan?
Bas: tevreden met de opbrengst van de vip-tickets?
Al met al was het een mooie dag.

Mooie selectie van nummers: Jealousy, Sail away, Lily of the valley,
nevermore, melancholy blues, enz
Eigenlijk wel mijn favoriete nummers (in een bepaalde stemming dan ).
Maar je gaat er niet van uit je dak. Zeker niet omdat er naast piano
verder geen enkele begeleiding was. Die dame alleen vond ik erg sterk. Die
twee gasten en zeker die kale erg popie-jopie zonder erg veel bijdrage.
Het meebleren (hoewel ik hier de moeilijkheidsgraad wellicht wat
onderschat - sorry dan) op een karaoke-band van Queen nummers vind ik
persoonlijk niet voldoende om me los te krijgen. En inderdaad waren wij niet
de enige, want Miracle had na 1 nummer al meer publiek mee dan Pressure
na de hele gig.
Rien en ik vonden Pressure nog het meest overtuigen bij openingsnummer
Pressure on en het slotnummer Final destination. Roger nummers dus.
Miracle vond ik absolute top.
What more can I say.
IF YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN QUEEN LIVE ON STAGE, THIS WILL BE THE CLOSEST
THING YOU WILL EVER GET!

Het was in Waalre inderdaad leuk om weer een paar bekenden te zien.
Pressure vond ik zwaar tegenvallen, wel met uitzondering van de
zangeres en haar spel op het keyboard.
Overigens was het openingsnummer volgens mij Surrender. Heel goed gedaan en
het beloofde heel wat.
Maar nee, die popie-jopie sloeg zelfs bij het Eee-oooo van Freddie
absoluut de plank mis.
En bij het inzetten van Grote Bloemkolen, nee toen had ik het helemaal
gehad.
Hij had overigens wel een stem die veel leek op Feargal Sharkey, dus
was ie beter uit de bus gekomen met A Good Heart bijvoorbeeld.
Ook de veiling viel volgens mij tegen. Ik was wel verbaasd wat sommigen
voor een poster betalen.
En wie lokt er nu 10 minuten voor het optreden van Miracle de mensen de
zaal uit om een stuk taart te kopen???
En Miracle...
Voor mijn gevoel klonk het in Vlaardingen beter, maar verder was het
een zeer goed optreden.
Heerlijk om die oude Queennummers weer te horen.

Hoi allemaal,
leuk om veel van jullie weer te zien en te spreken!
Ik vond Pressure.... ehm.... slecht
Die zangeres was idd het enige pluspunt van de band (wanneer komen de
foto's online Pim, en anderen?)
De zang van de zangeres was op momenten ook wel oke... maar soms ook
minder oke :-S Die andere zangers... Ik maak er geen woorden aan
vuil :-)
En dan Miracle.... Aaaaaarrrggghhhhhh!!!! Wat zijn die gasten goed!!!!
Echt top!!!
Fantastische dag.... jammer dat de beurs zo klein was dit jaar (en
rustig), ook op de veiling wel leuke items, alleen net boven mijn budget...
maar over het algemeen.... TOPdag!

eerst en vooral allemaal bedankt om niet mee
te dingen naar die SAS kaarten met afterparty
zo heb ik ze aan een zacht prijsje kunnen kopen
en daarmee zijn we weer op weg naar enkele dagen londen veel leuke
spullen gekocht aan het kraam
van frank en vele leuke vrienden gesproken

Subject: mijn relaas
Ik ben een beetje laat, maar toch, bij deze dan:
Ik ben op de trein gestapt, en in Eindhoven ( waar ik langs dat
k*tstadion kwam!! Grrrr) stond Erik op het perron op mij te wachten. Kreeg in
de bus nog een kleine rondleiding Eindhoven ( waar ik helemaaaaaaaal
niet op zat te wachten! :-) en bij het Klooster aangekomen, zagen we
Alexis buiten lopen die weer eens met een 1e prijs van een loterij aan de
haal was gegaan.. Hahahaha
De "markt" was gauw gezien, met die 8 kraampjes die er stonden. Wel nog
een Roger cd gekocht voor maar 5 euro, en ben er heel blij mee!!
Later kwam Ilona met haar vriend er nog bij en was het kletsen in de
zon buiten en wachten tot Hans& Dochter kwamen. Toen die erbij waren, was
het mini clubje compleet, en hebben we de lokale shoarmaboeren belaagd
met zijn allen. (Die riep al tot volgend jaar toen we weggingen!!)
Pressure kwam als 1e, was erg vermakelijk, en soms erg goed, maar
bovenal amusant vind ik. leuke spontane Engelse gozers, en een meid die zeer
goed kon pingelen op het keyboard van Mark!!!
tegen die tijd was de zaal alweer helemaal uitverkocht en volgelopen.
De veiling begon en er werd niet super geboden, maar toch ging alles
eruit. Nog een hele mooie poster gekocht met de setting van It's a hard
Life, die nu in het halletje hangt.
Miracle was gewoon weer top, had bijna niet anders verwacht hoor. Nog
ff kunnen kletsen met Johnnie, en om half 1 in de auto gesprongen die al
stond te wachten op me.
Gewoon een hele leuke middag en avond gehad!!! Was er heel erg blij mee
dat ik toch kon gaan!!!!!!!!
